Reviewing Starcraft now is not easy. You have to research, think about what was the game envirorment in the 1998. Obviosly you cannot compare this game to present one, it will be a mere shadow, nothing, not even worth to be played on mobile phones.
But then, in the 1998 it was the best. Great story (Blizzard top specialty), unique factions, awesome musics.
Unfortunatly, in the 1999, Warzone 2100 came out and Starcraft showed what is really was.. an old, small, non-innovative game.
I just can't leave this game alone. It is always loaded on my comp incase I feel like playing it. Now and then I find some more mods or maps and occasionally I find gems like the Insurrection Campain which revives my interest yet again. Excellent game and now Starcraft II with Christmas coming up ... could life get any better?
This game is historical for this genre. I think anybody who likes strategic games has spent hours and hours with this title. AI is perfectly balanced; the campaigns are great both for the story and the missions; graphic is well realized. Multiplayer is the first one so nice, even if playing against more than a non human challenger, makes the match hard to win, but this makes the challenge more interesting.
This is a wonderful RTS game, still extremely popular in competions across the world. And while it's not quite up to some of the most recent developments like Dawn of War, Starcraft revolutionized the genre when it was released. I played and played and played this game, both in the single player missions and online with friends. The expansions were all great, the plot was well done. Just a singularly great game that has kept its replayability amazingly well over the years. Highly recommended.
