The Sims Social Summary
It seems that Electronic Arts is attempting to repeat the success of The Sims Social by bringing SimCity to Facebook as well with SimCity Social.
Electronic Arts has registered several domains including SimCitySocial.com, SimCity-Social.com and SimCityFacebook.com, while creating a currently unpublished SimCity Social Facebook page.
Electronic Arts has reported that the publisher has enjoyed its biggest financial quarter in almost 8 years, and attributes it to its wildly successful digital distribution revenue, as well as income from some of its stalwart franchises.
Electronic Arts is reporting that the publisher has earned over $1B USD from its digital properties and sales. The company attributes it both to its acquisition of major social networking and casual game companies such as PopCap Games, Playfish and Chillingo, as well as its new digital distribution service, Origin.
Proof that The Sims is the major dominant force in PC gaming has been reinforced as Gamasutra is reporting that The Sims Social has overtaken megalithic social networking game Farmville as the most active Facebook game app, at least in daily active users (DAUs).
Considering the mega-popularity of The Sims, it's not surprising that the Facebook game The Sims Social has attracted five million users already, which duplicates the experience of the old subscription-based MMO The Sims Online.
