Dawn of War was a great game, but it obviously needed more - bigger tanks, and a bunch of 'umies to drive them. Of course that meant it was time to bring in the Imperial Guard.
We'd seen them in the original Dawn of War, and even got to control them to a small extent, so it was no real surprise that the first expansion for DoW would use them as the new race in the game. Definitely designed more for the player who likes to turtle at first, but then come blasting out at the end to kick the crap out of everyone with the largest and most powerful vehicles in the game - Basilisk cannon plus the Baneblade is just about enough to wipe out the enemy on their own. Getting there is the hard bit.
In this expansion, Relic did try and improve the single player missions, but honestly they were still lacking. The forced switching between races in the "good" and "evil" campaigns, and the limited number of missions just didn't quite seem to cut it. However, the new units added to the game did make it both enjoyable and worthwhile - and it honestly didn't cost a whole lot of money.
But what better recommendation can I give than to say I'm still playing it!
