About 200 staffers are affected by this rumoured closure, with those not let go being moved to other developers. It’s all unconfirmed for now.
”Pandemic Studios - the developers behind Star Wars: Battlefront and Mercenaries - will today be closed down by owners Electronic Arts, according to several sources close to the situation,” reports Kotaku. This ends after 11 years in operation if true.
EA bought the studio in 2007, but recent poor performances have hampered the team getting off the ground again with a hit title. Recently their Australian arms were shut because of canned projects, like the Dark Knight game.
The Saboteur, which will be Pandemic’s last, has been passed on to EA’s Montreal studio (Army of Two). It’s due for release on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC this December 4th.
An announcement is apparently expected today for Pandemic staff at 11 a.m. PT.
