They’re soon to unveil what they’ve got and it’ll be the ”shortest it’s been” for Bethesda, between reveal and retail. It based off Fallout 3 tech.
”I spend a lot of my time on the game that’s in pre-production, but the new game that’s percolating takes the most of my time,” said Todd Howard. That’s him confirming he’s split between their current in the works title and this new creation that’s just starting.
”Right, so we’re in production on the new game, and we have a design going for the one after that.” Don’t expect a time frame for the announcement because while ”I have a sense”, says Howard they’re not ready to even talk timing yet.
”One thing I can say is that from when you first hear about it to when it’s out will be the shortest it’s been for us. It’s pretty far along. When we show it, we want to show a lot, because there’s a lot of game there to play right now.”
If Peter Hines, Bethesda’s PR boss, were to say ‘show it now’ then Howard would be comfortable doing that. ”But we’ve just decided for now not to yet.” The project head wouldn’t be coaxed into revealing game details - thought to be a new Elder Scrolls title.
Whatever it is then it does uses Fallout 3’s engine tech although it’s greatly modified. ”Fallout 3 technically does a lot more than Oblivion. The new stuff is an even bigger jump from that,” he said. ”I can say it is on the existing platforms, which we’re really happy with. You almost feel like you have a new console when you see the game.”
Howard also said the one thing he would like to ”completely redo” in Fallout 3 would be the level cap, in that he wants it removed, ”because it just makes the game more fun to level up. It just does. The sense of accomplishment every time you do something to get some XP. So I think we’ll make efforts in the future to not have one.”
Expect far greater animations on characters too. ”That’s something we’ve put a lot of time into - not just technology but people and talent, and how long we spend doing individual elements,” continued Bethesda’s Howard.
Are you hoping this new game on the cusp of its debut will be an Elder Scrolls?
