"love it if this was the first of a number of things" they could do with Mortal Kombat working with studios.
In fact the online web series is an "emotional introduction" to the characters, it "taps into a lot of" what people experienced the first time seeing Mortal Kombat.
"To me it's almost like an emotional introduction back into Mortal Kombat," said Ed Boon. "It taps into a lot of people's seeing the first movies, playing the first games, and that whole part of their life that seems very defined by Mortal Kombat."
"I'd love it if this was the first of a number of things that we can do with Kevin and Warner Brothers in terms of bringing Mortal Kombat to other media; whether it's live-action shorts like this, another feature film would be great, and of course future video games as well."
If the Mortal Kombat Legacy series manages to pull in enough interest then the 'Rebirth' short that leaked online to the public could very well get Warner Bros' full attention. Director Kevin Tancharoen admits the leak doubtlessly helped get Warner to say yes to Legacy. Should Mortal Kombat branch out more into other media?
