The 2011 edition of Mortal Kombat is a 3D reboot of the notorious fighting game series that reveled in excessive violence with its spine-ripping Fatalities. The ninth game in the series uses next-gen graphics to take the gore - which even the press release brags is “cringe-worthy” - to the next level, with X-Ray Combos in which you can see bones and internal organs fracture and burst.
Mortal Kombat also added new modes in addition to the Story Mode, such as Tag Team, Challenge and the online King of the Hill Mode, which replicates the old coin-op arcade style of leaving your quarter on the machine and waiting to take your shot at knocking off the current champ.
The game has also released a series of successful DLC in the form of additional fighters, including horror superstar Freddy Krueger of the A Nightmare on Elm Street films.
