”My finger-pointing at Microsoft/Sony would really be on the memory side,” stated Crytek dev Tiago Sousa. ”It’s way too low, and the biggest crippling factor from a visual perspective.”
While increasing the RAM sixteen-fold in the new few years might be asking too much of Microsoft and Sony, Sousa did praise Sony and Microsoft for their developer support, admitting that Crysis 2 was only possible on those consoles thanks to toolkits that allowed Crytek to wring ”as much performance as possible from the fixed architecture.”
There is no official word on any 8th generation console from Sony or Microsoft, though there are rampant rumors about a next-gen Wii console.
