Alpha Protocol was one of the more unfairly maligned roleplaying games of last year, featuring a present day scenario with tons of morally ambiguous decisions that the player could make, which would affect the gameplay and the story as the game went along. The PC version, in particular, was well designed.
However, since the game flopped in sales, Sega has completely given up on the IP - but Obsidian hasn't.
In an "Perhaps it was not necessarily the job we did but there was something beyond the game – how it was represented or how it was sold or what people felt we promised them. Something went off-kilter there. So there’s another lesson to learn about communication," says Urquhart. "We’re not making Alpha Protocol 2 but I would make Alpha Protocol 2.
