VG247 contacted Ubisoft regarding the “Ubisoft Online Service” listen in the DRM section of the Steam listing for From Dust.
The response from a rep from Ubisoft will make people feel better, at least for this particular game: “From Dust will not require a permanent online connection to play in single-player mode.”
The same is still not true for Driver: San Francisco, however. “Ubisoft requires a permanent Internet connection to play this video game at all times.”
[Update: Bluesnews has reported: We received our answer about the DRM in From Dust after the Steam Listing suggested the upcoming god game might use Ubisoft’s “always on” DRM. Confirming word from last night, here’s the deal: ”You will not need to be connected online when playing From Dust’s single player campaign and challenge modes.”]
