British news agencies such as the BBC and The Telegraph are reporting that OpCapita, under which the Comet retail brand is ensconced, will be announcing that it has acquired the failing videogame chain GAME. This acquisition would only apply to the UK arm of the company.
It was thought that the Royal Bank of Scotland had taken over Game earlier this week.
The BBC and The Telegraph, however, have conflicting reports on the acquiision. The BBC claims that 333 stores and 3,100 jobs will be saved by the acquisition. The Telegraph contradicts this, stating, it’s “not known how many of Game’s remaining employees will keep their jobs”.
OpCapita last year had purchased UK electronics retailer for £2.
Stay tuned.
