That’s a 34% drop from the same period last year which cleared 4.1 million. Overall Q1 2012 physical sales lost 30% compared to Q1 2011. GAME couldn’t source new stock.
For eight weeks the retailer was unable to secure new stock as it entered administration. A buyer was found eventually but not before over 250 stores closed, costing over 2,000 jobs.
Among the missing titles at GAME during the crisis were key EA launches like Mass Effect 3 and FIFA Street. Despite this the publisher managed to dominate the UK sales chart for the month of March, which accounted for one third of all UK game sales for the period. Retail took £67.7 million in total for March, down 33.5% year-on-year.
