It’s an ambitious goal to be sure given the breadth of scope Rockstar pour into their GTA universes. In the context of this ‘super GTA’ - reimagining Vice City ”would be very interesting.”
Of course all this talk, even from a R* producer, is just describing the more powerful of wet dream fans have when tucked up at night after a GTA gaming binge.
The huge area alone that GTA V’s new take on Los Santos consumes is greater than Rockstar San Diego’s Red Dead Redemption, and that was pretty darn big. In fact the studio has revealed it dwarfs RDR, San Andreas and GTA IV’s Liberty City combined. For a long time fans have hoped Vice City would get another shot.
”Of course at some point we would like to have one big world containing all our cities,” producer Leslie Benzies told Digital Trends in an interview. They were discussing the 10th anniversary of GTA: Vice City as it re-releases digitally on console and mobile devices. During the re-design process they were ”surprised at how hard the game is in places.”
Will Rockstar ever book a return flight to Vice City? ”There are a few references to the city in our current-gen GTAs so it is part of that HD universe, and it is certainly somewhere we would love to revisit,” said Benzies.
”However Vice City, perhaps more than any other GTA game, was as much about the era as the setting. Miami in the 1980’s is so iconic it would feel strange to revisit the city in a different time period.”
Fulfilling the dream of a GTA with every city in, they’d be able to let players ”fly between them and revisit their favorite areas, and in that context reimagining Vice City would be very interesting.” Check out the full interview between Leslie Benzies and Digital Trends. GTA: Vice City is now available on PSN, Android and iOS.
