Tom’s Guide reports that an industry source has leaked to the site that Bethesda will be revealing a new MMO based on the Elder Scrolls IP. The MMO would allegedly take place 1,000 years before the events of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, in what fans of the series know as the Second Era.
A rumor regarding an MMO set in the Elder Scrolls universe has been floating around for the last two years, with Bethesda’s director Todd Howard claiming he had ”no interest” in such an MMO, stating, ”You know, it’s what most of us are into. I’m not really an MMO guy. I respect them, I look at them, but I don’t play them.”
According to the leak, the MMO would feature three playable factions. None of them have been named, but their standards are known: a dragon, which likely refers to the Septim royal line, which is Dragonborn, a lion and a winged figure that is either a phoenix or an eagle.
The timing of an announcement in May would certainly generate some buzz heading into E3 2012, which takes place during the first week in June.
Predictably, both Bethesda and ZeniMax refuse to comment on the rumor.
