MechWarrior Online may be a free-to-play mech sim MMO, but the game has already netted publisher Infinite Game and developer Piranha Games $5M in preorder sales, which began in July.
The preorders inducted purchasers into the Founder’s Program, which allowed instant access to the closed beta, and will give those players elevated status in-game.
Mechwarrior Online will be heading into open beta next week, which is basically a soft launch for a free-to-play title.
