Assassin’s Creed 3 seems to be shaping up to be the biggest Ubisoft release in the publisher’s long history, as it has already shattered the record for most preorders of an Ubisoft game. To give an idea of how badly the game is eclipsing other games in the franchise, there are already more preorders of Assassin’s Creed 3 than Brotherhood, and over ten times as many preorders as Revelations.
There are several probable reasons for the interest. For one, from a purely anecdotal perspective, gamers seem to have grown faitgued with Ezio Auditore’s storyline, and have been eager to move on to the next protagonist. The setting, the American Revolution, is intriguing, as is the new hero, Connor Kenway. Finally, the special editions - three of them - look to be sweet deals with plenty of attractive feelies.
Ubisoft is also going to strike while the iron is hot, and make the game the most marketed in company history as well. Ubisoft VP of sales and marketing Tony Key promises that the game will enjoy a full marketing push, and will be the biggest launch in company history.
Assassin’s Creed 3 has been in development for the past 3 years, and will be launched this October 2012 for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
