Indie developer Yacht Club Games has confirmed that their Kickstarted retro-style platformer Shovel Knight will be released in early 2014, after missing its proposed launch in September 2013.
The developer tweeted:
@Dungeon00X The more we work on the game, the more early 2014 seems like a much more likely release date. Will be a busy Winter, to be sure!

Yacht Club Games explained further, “As the updates have shown, the game is going really well! And the estimated delivery date was set for the initial goal. However, since we blew past that (4 times past that!!!!) we are using that money to put extra polish into the game! You can expect a much more polished game as a result to come out later this winter.”
”We are pretty focused on just getting the game to a finished state, and while a demo sounds enticing, we are likely going to use the time needed to get a demo together to just get the whole game out sooner,” the developer added.
Shovel Knight made its Kickstarter goal this past April 2013, raising over $300K with a $75K goal.
