During Journey developer thatgamecompany’s DICE 2013 presentation regarding their evocative PlayStation Network game, the studio revealed that they had run out of cash and had gone bankrupt.
This was due to the company deciding to spent an additional year developing Journey, which forced them to burn through their reserves. According to co-founder Jenova Chen, ”A lot of people weren’t paid. We also went bankrupt as a company.”
Part of Journey’s success was its simplicity - in fact, the design document for the game was a single Powerpoint slide.
Journey was released on the 12th March 2012, and had a stellar 92 Metacritic aggregate score.
