Day Z creator Dean Hall has released a new developer diary for his open world shooter, discussing some of the updates to the game that will include changes to zombie AI and item degradation.
The zombie AI in the original mod Day Z had been based on ArmA II scripting. The new zombie AI for the standalone version has been revamped with new, original AI.
"The proposal I came up with was that zombies will chase players and avoid collision. The zombies will only pathfind for a short distance in front of them, and otherwise, they'll avoid collision," Hall promised.
To discourage "shoot on sight" ideology, shooting other players just to steal their inventory will include bullet damage to items, making it less useful to kill someone without any sort of interaction. Gamers will also be able to handcuff others as well.
