The mod was once known as World of Starcratf, but that title ran into legal issues with Blizzard, so the name was changed to Starcraft Universe.
Starcraft Universe, as the title implies, turns Starcraft II into a wide open persistent world, where players take on the role of a single class. Humans can be a Marine, Ghost, Medic or Firebat, while Protoss can be a Zealot, Dark Templar, Preserver or High Templar. The Zerg are a villainous third race.
Like an MMO, there are hundreds of customizable weapons, combat modifiers and equipment variations, as well as item crafting and vehicles. The mod is played on Battle.net, but no Starcraft II license is required to play.
Gamers interested in backing Starcraft Universe can visit the Kickstarter page here. The goal is $80USD, and the drive has already raised almost $6000 after a single day.
