Epic Mickey was considered a failure on the Nintendo Wii, despite selling 2.83M units globally to date, with 1.89M units in North America. Epic Mickey 2, which has been released on four platforms, is struggling even worse.
According to the LA Times, Epic Mickey 2 only moved 270,000 copies in North America on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii and Wii U combined by the end of 2012, which is a disaster compared to the 1.3M units sold from November 2010 to the end of the year on the Wii for the original Epic Mickey.
So far, Epic Mickey 2 has sold only 580,000 units worldwide to date, with 440,000 of those sales coming in North America.
Of course, part of the reason is simply that Epic Mickey 2 is not very good. The game received savage reviews (PS3 Metacritic: 59, 360 Metacritic: 59, Wii U Metacritic: 56, Wii Metacritic: 64), and unfortunately for creator Warren Spector, there is no divide with fans, as fans have given a worse score at Metacritic as well.
Strategy Informer is no different, having given the game a 5.0/10 score in its, blasting the controls and the lack of a coherent story.
