It smacks of pay-to-win, and the PlanetSide 2 grunts weren’t happy. After returning from the burn ward from all the flaming, Sony announce they’re to ”go back to the drawing board” on implants.
Previously Sony had promised that only cosmetic items and effects would be charging real money, and so players fear these implants would greatly upset the balance.
”After reading through your comments we have decided to go back to the drawing board on implants,” tweeted SOE president John Smedley. ”They will not be coming with GU13.” SOE has now retracted the Implants feature with a ”YOINK!” on the official changelog posted on the forums.
Last year creative director Matt Higby said: ”Anything that affects gameplay, such as grenades or medkits or implants that give you additional power within the game, will be exclusively unlocked via resources,” referring to in-game currency etc. The fans didn’t appreciate this statement being made false with the proposed GU13 Implants.
Sony will be bringing PlanetSide 2 to PlayStation 4 when it launches - PC and PS4 servers will be separate.
