1,978 people were surveyed with 79% of those aged over 60 believing games caused aggression, with 61% between 40 to 59. Those 25 to 39 mostly dismiss a link.
52% of the 25 to 39 group doesn’t believe there is a link between the two, against 48% that did. 18 to 24 year-olds were split 58% to 42%. Concerns ‘likely to fade’.
Rock music, comics, radio dramas… these have all been demonised by older fogy generations but have eventually dropped off, both in opinion and literally. The same is expected to happen for video games leaving tabloids and politicians to eventually move on to blaming something else for everyone’s ills. 3D printers maybe?
Oxford Internet Institute research Andrew Przybylski said ”it is possible that concerns about games could fade away in much the same way that fears about rock music, comic books, and radio dramas dissolved when these forms of entertainment gained wider acceptance”.
Yeah, so shut yer face old people or I’ll cut you good. I mean it - I’m GTA trained.
Currently there is no scientific consensus that video games have an impact on aggression. Many studies have been produced but mostly buckle under criticism for their methodology and political bias.
