If you’ve been wondering how Dying Light’s pre-order multiplayer ‘Be the Zombie’ mode works, a new video from developer Techland offers some answers.
Basically, it looks a bit like a zombie version of Evolve. If you own the DLC you can invade other players’ games as a super-powerful undead monster, hunt them down and eat their faces.
Bit of a shame Techland’s gated this behind pre-orders only, but it certainly looks entertaining. You’re more of an agile, speedy 28 Days Later-style zombie than a regulation shambling corpse, and your terrifying speed and pounce move should scare the hell out of anyone whose game world you invade.
“The game is absolutely huge as it is, but to provide the ultimate zombie survival experience, we added an extra element of unpredictability to our nighttime gameplay,” says Dying Light’s Producer Tymon Smektala. “Online players can face the threat of a possible invasion of their game by the Night Hunter, an extremely powerful, human-controlled zombie mutation.
”These invasions are an inherent part of Dying Light, available on all platforms for all online players from day one. However for our hardcore fans who pre-order, we’re offering them a bonus – Be the Zombie – which lets you actually take control of the Night Hunter and invade online games of other players.”
Not sure if you should be restricting ”inherent parts” of your game, but I guess that’s the state of our pre-order obsessed industry right now. If you do want to secure a copy of Dying Light’s open-world horror game, you can either grab it from the official website or over on Steam.
