So long Prey 2, we hardly knew ye. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bethesda_Softworks]Bethesda[/url] has officially confirmed that the sci-fi shooter, which looked reasonably promising when it emerged back in 2011, is no longer in production.
Bethesda’s head marketing bod Pete Hines revealed the news in an interview with CNet, explaining that the game wasn’t living up to the publisher’s expectations of quality.
“It was game we believed in, but we never felt that it got to where it needed to be – we never saw a path to success if we finished it,” he explained. “It wasn’t up to our quality standard and we decided to cancel it. It’s no longer in development. That wasn’t an easy decision, but it’s one that won’t surprise many folks given that we hadn’t been talking about it.
Still, it might not be the end of the shooter franchise, the first entry in which was a big hit when developer Human Head released it back in 2006. “Human Head Studios is no longer working on it. It’s a franchise we still believe we can do something with — we just need to see what that something is,” said Hines.
Hmm. Does the wording there suggest that the franchise has been moved on to another studio? We’ll keep an eye out for any further information from Bethesda.
