This doesn’t come as a huge surprise - Bethesda has officially confirmed that a recent trademark filing for a game called Fallout: Shadow of Boston was a hoax.
That title seemed to fit with documentation discovered by Kotaku last year suggesting a Boston setting for the next entry in the series, but it turns out fans eagerly anticipating Fallout 4 will have to wait a little longer.
“The German trademark filing that’s making the rounds is a hoax,” Bethesda confirmed on Twitter. “This didn’t come from our offices.” Never underestimate the lengths people will go to make stuff up for no real reason. This wasn’t quite as elaborate a con as the Survivor2299 website that popped up last year, which used some fantastically thorough fakery to appear as a teaser site for a new Fallout game.
Now obviously we’ll see another Fallout game at some point, the critical and commerical success of Fallout 3 and New Vegas basically assures that, but Shadow of Boston ain’t it.
