Despite initial indications from developers Klei Entertainment that Don’t Starve would be a singleplayer-only title, the team has now announced that their wilderness survival game will indeed be getting a multiplayer mode this Summer.
”Alright, so let’s rip this bandage right off,” wrote developer Joe W on the game’s official forum. ”We are bringing multiplayer to Don’t Starve.”
The new multiplayer mode for 2-4 players will be called Don’t Starve Together. “Don’t Starve Together is a multiplayer expansion for Don’t Starve allowing friends or complete strangers to survive together, in either public or private games. As far as we know, it will have most of (if not all) the normal features in Don’t Starve, balanced for multiplayer, and potentially even add new features.”
Though the update will be free to all owners of the game, it will bump the price up for new customers to $19.99. The team say they will have an early alpha version of the update before heading to Early Access, much like the original game and its Reign of Giants expansion.
