There won’t be a Steam Early Access release for Double Fine’s Broken Age adventure, reveals the studio. Instead those who purchase the title will immediately receive Act 1 when it launches and a ‘season pass’.
That means Act 2 will be downloaded later for free as an update. They cite ”various logistical reasons” as the cause of the no-show through Early Access. Act 1 is ”polished and satisfying” as it is, they say.
The game releases today for Kickstarter backers of the Double Fine Adventure, although today’s gamers with actual early access are also under review embargo.
”You may recall that at one point Broken Age was planned for release under the Steam Early Access program,” said Double Fine. “This is no longer the case. For various logistical reasons, and because we believe Act 1 is a polished and satisfying piece of content in its own right, Broken Age will be a standard Steam release that includes a ‘Season Pass’ granting access to Act 2 once it is complete.”
“Anyone who has Act 1 – either by being a backer, or by buying the game separately – will receive Act 2 as a free update when it’s ready.” Today Double Fine release Steam keys for Broken Age’s Act 1 through Humble Bundle.
