Some character names in World of Warcraft are a little dusty, so Blizzard is getting ready to release them back into the naming pool soon in a pre-expansion patch for Warlords of Draenor.
Any name that’s gone silent since before November 13th, 2008 will be up for grabs again. To avoid this subscribers will have to log into each character before patch 6.0.2 hits.
”While it is possible no one will claim your recently released name and you might be able to snag it again, it is probably not worth the risk if you want to keep your names intact long-term,” blogged Blizzard. ”Our goal with this great name liberation is to make sure new and returning players have a large and varied pool of names available to choose from’”so log in now if you wish to preserve your unused characters’ names for your journey intro Draenor.”
Someone needs to invent a phone directory for Azeroth. Start giving us family names and then you wouldn’t need to worry about duplicate first names anymore. Unfortunately not even Star Wars: The Old Republic with its Legacy family tree thought to let us have the same first names as others. We’ve all got to be snowflakes.
World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor releases November 13th.
