Reports of Irrational Games’ demise may have been greatly exaggerated, if a new job listing on the developer’s website is any indication.
The company, which co-founder Ken Levine claimed he was “winding down” in February this year, is now looking for a senior programmer with Unreal Engine 3 and 4 experience.
There’s also an IT manager job up for grabs, but it’s the senior programmer role that’s obviously more interesting. “Irrational Games is currently looking for a Senior Programmer that is equally experienced in architecting and implementing AI and Gameplay systems,” the ad reads. “This position will work directly with the Lead Programmer, along with the Animation, Art and Design teams to create fun and interesting AI opponents and gameplay elements for our next title.”
So a new project is definitely underway, despite Levine saying that the studio as we knew it was effectively over as he moved on to a “smaller, more entrepreneurial endeavor at Take-Two.”
Is this the “new endeavour” that Levine promised? In that announcement post from February he announced his next goal as being the creation of “narrative-driven games for the core gamer that are highly replayable.” It’s all a bit unclear as to what exactly is going on at the moment, but we’ll keep an eye out for any further updates.
