WB Games’ Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor apparently wants to eat our GPUs for lunch if you’re considering running the open world action game on its ‘Ultra’ texture settings for PC.
In fact to even get the option you’ll need to download an optional and free ‘Ultra HD Texture Pack’, which then demands a hefty 6GB VRAM, while ‘High’ looks to feast upon 3GB.
Have we entered the era of the VRAM wars? Not even Nvidia’s latest GeForce 900 series yet supports 6GB, instead going for apparently a weak sauce of just 4GB. The settings note this 6GB figure is if you intend to run Ultra textures at 1080p, presumably looking to upscale it for fancy 4K monitors or some such.
An image of the game’s PC settings has surfaced on NeoGAF, which also teases some of the game’s other PC configurations like Tessellation, Motion Blur etc. The lowest textures require 1GB, according to the game’s settings, with medium at 2GB, high at 3GB and ultra demanding blood sacrifices at 6GB.
Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor releases on PC September 30th.
