The League of Legends Oceania Pro League, according to Riot Games “the first professional eSports league in Oceania”, starts today, with eight teams battling it out over a $64,000 prize pool.
Format-wise we’re talking weekly battles taking place over a seven-week split, with the bottom three teams relegated from the league at the end of the season.

Winners of each split have the opportunity to take on the creme de la creme of the League of Legends eSports scene. The Split 1 champions will earn a place at the International Wildcard Invitational, competing at which gives them to opportunity to win a place at the prestigious Mid-Season Invitational alongside the biggest teams from Asia and America. The Spilt 2 winners, meanwhile, will represent Oceania at the Wildcard Qualifier for a place at the World Championships.
