There’s something non-Titanfall happening at the Titanfall HQ of Respawn Entertainment, and heading the studio’s smaller second team is God of War 3 director Stig Asmussen. They’re approaching it ”with an open mind.”
Will it be a shooter? Action? First or third-person? Right now Respawn founder Vince Zampella isn’t saying, and there’s unlikely to be anything revealed at this years’ E3.
Currently this smaller second team is in pre-production so it could still go in any direction, but Zampella has ”a lot of respect” for Asmussen and he jumped at the chance to get him working at Respawn after his Sony departure.
”There’s no pressure right now as to what it is,” Zampella told Game Informer. ”We’re waiting and doing it right. Stig’s somebody I’ve known for a long time. I have a lot of respect for him; he’s done an amazing job on past projects. I was talking to him for a while and the opportunity came up when things went down at Sony to bring him on board and I jumped at it.”
Titanfall is the studio’s first IP and its debut was tied to EA as publisher and to Microsoft for being an Xbox One launch title. However the series beyond this first entry is open to anything, and could launch multi-platform. There’s unlikely anything due this E3: ”We’ll be heads down, back to work.”
Will Respawn diversify so soon into other genres?
