Cryptic Studios and Perfect World have released the next expansion for their free-to-play MMO Neverwinter. Elemental Evil adds a new class and a brand new storyline.
The new story quests mark the return of fan favourite chracter Minsc, best known for a) his space hamster Boo, and b) his starring role in the Baldur’s Gate RPG series.
The new class, the Oathbound Paladin, can choose to either focus on tanking or healing and buffing his or her allies. The module also bumps the level cap from 60 to 70, and adds new features and abilities for the other seven classes in the game.
“Our team is thrilled to revisit one of the most iconic stories of Dungeons & Dragons with Neverwinter: Elemental Evil,” says Rob Overmeyer, executive producer of Neverwinter. “Aspiring to deliver our biggest expansion to-date, our team at Cryptic focused on introducing long-requested gameplay features as well as building more Dungeons & Dragons lore into our game.”
Elemental Evil is a throwback to the classic module Temple of Elemental Evil, which is regarded as one of the best pen and paper adventures ever made. It was also the subject of a singleplayer RPG back in 2003, which was pretty good too – if a little fiddly.
You can grab the Neverwinter client from the game’s official website. Full patch notes for the new update are here.
