The Creative Assembly has released the fourth DLC pack for its survival horror Alien: Isolation, adding ten new ‘Salvage’ challenges and a new map to explore. Or find a cupboard in which to cower. Probably the second one.
Lost Contact reintroduces Axel, one of the first survivors Amanda Ripley meets on the doomed space station Sevastopol. The new missions take place prior to those events.
As usual you’ll be crawling around through vents and abandoned hallways, searching for components with which to craft useful items. There are ten challenges to master, and completing each of them will unlock new schematics. Die, and you’ll return to the last challenge checkpoint that you completed. There’s a brief ‘Let’s Play’ of the new content above.
I’m still not sure what exactly these DLC packs offer that’s particularly new - from the look of things it’s more trudging through corridors trying not to get your head chewed off. The environments don’t seem to change a great deal either - squint and this could be pretty much any segment from the main game. Alien: Isolation was great, but when I finished it I was sort of exhausted. Playing more of the same just wasn’t something I was interested in. Which makes me wonder how many people felt the same, and what kind of sales numbers CA is getting from the game’s DLC.
Lost Contact is available on Steam for £5.59, or will be added to your game at no charge if you’ve already bought the Season Pass.
