Hearthstone fans were left intrigued a couple of days back, when a mysterious fourth button suddenly appeared in the virtual card game’s main menu.
It turns out that Blizzard is adding a brand new way to play - Tavern Brawl. This new mode will pit players against each other in match-ups that use unique rules, updated each week to constantly keep you on your toes.
You might, for instance, be given a pre-made deck, or find that one type of minion has had their effectiveness doubled. It’s a way for Blizzard to mix and mess things up for casual players, though you’ll still need to rank up to level 20 to access Tavern Brawl.
While you can jump into random matches with strangers, the new mode also allows you to challenge your friends directly from the menu. The first playable Tavern Brawl arrives in “mid-June”, and joining in the launch celebrations by winning your first game will net you a free card pack.
Tavern Brawls aren’t the only new thing coming to Hearthstone soon – after announcing dwarf king Magni Bronzebeard as an alternate warrior hero, Blizzard is also teasing two new heroes for the Hunter and Mage classes.
