PlanetsideBattles and Sony Online Entertainment want the good boys and girls of PlanetSide 2 to enlist in their crazy caper to break a Guinness World Record with the MMOFPS. In fact they want to recapture a certain title.
The original PlanetSide held the ‘Most Players Online in an FPS Battle’ record, but it was taken by Man vs Machine in 2012. It’s time to strike back and it begins January 24th, 2015 @ 22:00UTC.
The browser-based Man vs Machine, which was created solely to outshine PlanetSide for the record, managed the feat with 999 players in a single space, on a single server. PlanetsideBattles and SOE are planning for 1,100 players, which is but a fraction of the player base.
”This record is for the greatest number of players simultaneously (in one single instance) in one server on an online FPS (First-Person Shooter) video game,” reads the official Guinness description.
”Our record attempt will consist of approximately 1,100 players and take place on the Jaeger competitive server as a 3 way match on Hossin, pitting each FACTION not servers, against each other. What this means is that a TR from Connery will be fighting alongside the combined TR populations from all servers; the same goes for the NC and VS,” explains PlanetsideBattles on Reddit.
”This will be by far the biggest organized event for PlanetsideBattles, as a community, and for Planetside as a game, and we are announcing this as early as we can to prepare. We cannot do this without the help that SOE is providing and we cannot do this without YOU.”
How does the rank and file soldier sign up for this recording breaking shoot-athon? Anyone who wishes to participate must fill out this Google form for a chance at entry to the event.
