The showpiece reveal in the last trailer for Batman: Arkham Knight was that you could team up with the extended Bat-family to punch goons in the head, but if you study the video a bit more closely you’ll also see Batman make use of a brand new weapon.
The Disruptor is Batman’s solution to the increasingly well-armed gangs roaming around Gotham, and developer Rocksteady has revealed some interesting information about it in a recent website post.
”The Disruptor provides Batman with greater tactical flexibility in any engagement before it even begins,” writes Rocksteady. ”Before combat, the Disruptor can be used to jam the weapons of an opponent, buying Batman precious time to gain the advantage and land the first attack. In Predator scenarios, the Disruptor can be employed to target various enemy devices by rendering them inactive, or even turning them against their owners.”
The gun also comes with a long-range scope, so that Bats can survey an area before swooping in for the beatdown. There’s also a range of possible upgrades to earn, from simple additional rounds, to anti-vehicle functions. It’s very stealthy, too, which is always useful. You can pop a goon’s rifle from a distant rooftop, and he won’t even notice it’s not working properly before it explodes in his surprised face.
Batman: Arkham Knight is set for a June 23 release on PC and consoles.
