The 13th Doll, a fan-made homage to The 7th Guest which is set in the same universe as the cult FMV horror adventure, has reached its Kickstarter goal.
Which is pretty odd, because when Trilobite Games, the team behind the original game, tried a similar crowd-funded project a couple of years back, they were unsuccessful.
Fortunately, the team is a generous bunch, and they gave the OK for The 13th Doll team to go ahead with their own effort.
“The 13th Doll ties in with the events of The 7th Guest,” writes the team. “ decade after Tad managed to escape the mansion, he is still haunted by the souls, dolls, and Stauf’s victims he left behind. So haunted, in fact, that the young man now resides in a mental institution - misunderstood, plagued by guilt and obsessed with one idea: to escape the dreary padded walls of his asylum cell, return to the mansion - the site of his innermost fears - to rescue those he left behind and defeat Stauf once and for all!”
The 13th Doll has earned over $42,000 from its $40,000 goal, with 14 days still left to go on the campaign. There is, inevitably, a whole host of stretch goals already planned – the next, at $50k, is a free-roaming Open House Mode.
