Here, VR headsets are a bit old hat, aren’t they? What you really need to do to experience true gaming satisfaction, is to strap yourself in to a full-body motion detector like the Virtuix Omni (ignoring the fact that it makes you look like a knock-off Terminator stuck on the production line).
Now that you can control your character through your own movements, what better game to choose for your virtual rampage than the recently released PC version of Rockstar’s blockbuster crime sim Grand Theft Auto V?
What you see in the video above is a modded version of the PC release that’s been tweaked in order to run with Virtuix’s hardware. Now you can get some exercise while carrying out your virtual heists. Of course, unless you’ve got enough room to store a massive treadmill next to your desktop setup, you’re probably not going to find the Omni hugely practical. Still pretty cool though, isn’t it?
Modders haven’t really sunk their teeth into GTA V yet, largely because Rockstar seems to have attempted to make editing the game’s files as difficult as possible, but it’s encouraging to see them opening it up enough to support VR. VG247 reported that the game was playable via the Oculus Rift yesterday, despite it lacking official support for the headset.
