Obsidian’s isometric throwback RPG Pillars of Eternity is so close now I can almost taste it, which means excited nerds like me are scrabbling to get their hands on any in-game footage they can.
Luckily for us, designer Josh Sawyer took to Twitch recently to stream over an hour of new footage, including a look at the stronghold base of Caed Nua.

You may want to skip ahead to the ten minute mark unless you really have a thing for the game’s main menu screen. That’s when the good stuff appears. Caed Nua is you base of operations in Pillars of Eternity, a ruined fortress that you can rebuild slowly over time using your hard-earned gold. Eventually you’ll unlock new shops, NPCs, missions and more to keep you busy when you’re not off adventuring on the world map.
There’s even a multi-level dungeon underneath, courtesy of the game’s Kickstarter campaign stretch goals. Sawyer walks around here a bit, though there’s nothing too spoilerific. Fantasy fans won’t be surprised to see tribes of kobolds (or Xaurips, as they’re known here) providing some nice early level XP. On a brief side-note, I think we can all appreciate the presence of a wizard with a shotgun in Sawyer’s party.
Looks like it’s all coming together nicely. Pillars of Eternity drops on March 26. There are a couple of pre-order editions available for a slight discount and some extra little trinkets.
