DICE has released its first developer diary for Star Wars Battlefront, discussing the game’s production, the team’s collaboration with Lucasfilm, and their trips to several locations where the films’ most famous scenes were filmed.
Basically, if you’ve ever wanted to be incredibly jealous of someone’s job, here you go. Getting its hands on all those classic movie props has helped DICE create a pretty visually authentic vision of the Star Wars universe.
The best thing about what we’ve seen so far, for me, is that it’s been so heavily focused on the classic trilogy. There’s no crammed-in battle droids or armies of jedi knights, it’s just lots of sweaty, tired, desperate Rebel commandos trying to fend off hordes of Imperial troops. That’s just what I want from a game set in this universe.
There’s also a very brief still in the video above of what looks like actual in-game play, from both a first and third-person perspective. It looks pretty nice, though obviously you can’t tell a great deal from one screenshot.
Star Wars Battlefront is set for release this November 20. I’d like to see more of the game itself, rather than glossy but ultimately meaningless cutscene trailers, but still, I’m feeling pretty hopeful so far.
