It might haven taken until the game hit the frankly ridiculous sum of $74 million via its Kickstarter campaign, but creator Chris Roberts says space sim Space Citizen is about to start coming together.
In one of Roberts’ frequent ’Letter From the Chairman’ posts, the developer says; “We’ve talked a lot about how Star Citizen will come together from disparate pieces over the past year, and we are now entering into when that happens.”
Version 1.0 of the game’s dog-fighting Arena Commander module was released back in December 2014, but since then we’ve had to rely on scrap from the game’s ongoing development, as well as a few glimpses of an on-foot shooter mode that (whisper it) looks a little bit ropey at this point.
So fans will be glad to hear that things are starting to progress. Roberts doesn’t drop specific dates, but we should get our hands on the game’s various modules start to come together over the next few months.
“Building our universe is already the most creatively satisfying thing I’ve ever done. But the coming months are going to be something else. Without sharing internal target dates, I will tell you that we are entering into the tightest schedule we’ve ever had for public releases. In short order, you will see Arena Commander 1.1 (now with REC!), the FPS module and the so-called ‘social module,’ our first foray into the persistent universe.”
Roberts says that the Star Citizen FPS module will be publicly playable for the first at PAX East, which kicks off in March.
