If you’ve always wanted to give Paradox’s grand strategy Goliath Europa Universalis IV a go, but you’ve maybe felt a little intimidated by the sheer scale of the thing, here’s a chance to try it out before you buy.
From now through Sunday 1PM PT you can download and play the game for free on Steam. Should you like what you find, you’ll be able to grab the game for a 75% discount during the same period.
EUIV is a more complex, expansive cousin to Crusader Kings 2, with a focus on international rather than personal politics. It’s a huge, grinding beast of a game, but once you’ve got a handle on some of its core mechanics, which aren’t quite as complicated as they initially seem, there’s some great experiences to be had.
Incidentally, the game’s latest DLC expansion El Dorado launched yesterday, alongside a free update carrying some fixes and alterations. We’re currently digging into the new expansion, so expect a review soon.
