Larian Studios must be a pretty happy place right now. The team has just wrapped up its Kickstarter campaign for Divinity: Original Sin 2, earning just over $2 million in the process.
”Of course, this is only the end of the beginning — there’s still a game to finish!” says Larian. ”The updates and community involvement will continue for every step of the way; there’s plenty of stuff that we haven’t even gotten around to showing you yet, and we can’t wait to bring you the latest developments.”
With that hefty funding pool, there’s a bunch of intriguing stretch goals already unlocked. These include Chris Avellone on board as a writer (and frankly we could stop there, because my love for Avellone’s work reaches Kathy Bates in Misery levels), Undead as a playable race, a new playable area called the Hall of Echoes, and more.
Games Master mode has also been added; this allows one player to design and populate dungeons and then share them with your hapless friends, attempting to murder them with traps and ambushes in real-time as they explore.
It’s all looking very promising, and that’s without mentioning the enhanced spell-crating system, expanded role-playing and dialogue mechanics and more.
