If you, like me, knew the early 90s licensed Disney games purely as console titles for the Super NES and Genesis/Mega Drive, then here’s a shocker–those games were actually ported to PC! Not only that, they were just licensed by GOG.com, available for purchase and updated to run on modern computers.
The three titles–the Jungle Book, the Lion King, and Aladdin–are all shockingly good for 90s-era licensed titles, with Aladdin in particular being considered a platforming classic. Each title adapts an animated film to a 2D, side-scrolling action game, filled with beautiful pixelized recreations of the original animation.
You’ll definitely find some retro throwbacks in our list of the best indie games on PC!
Disney and GOG.com have already been working together to release LucasArts classics ranging from Sam & Max to Indiana Jones to a massive selection of Star Wars titles. It’s wonderful to see other titles from outside the LucasArts catalog getting the care of modern rereleases, especially as Disney downsizes its games division.
All three titles are available, DRM-free, from GOG.com. Each is priced at $9.99, but they’ll be 10% off–or available as 33% off bundle–until August 8. So verily, go forth and relive your nostalgia!
