Oh, look! An RTS/strategy game that SEGA aren’t publishing! Slitherine, developers of Battle Academy and Panzer Corps on PC and iOS, are set to publish DESTINYbit’s medieval RTS – Empires Apart. It just makes sense that DESTINYbit would choose to partner with a publisher who has plenty of experience under their belts when it comes to strategy games.
”We are really excited to be working with Slitherine”, said Gian Paolo Vernocchi, one of DESTINYbit’s founders. ”When it comes to strategy games, they’re among the best in the business and this partnership enables us to fulfill our vision for a modern old-school RTS. We want to make a truly meaningful contribution to this genre and give the fans the game they always wanted”.
Empires Apart is very similar to games like Age of Empires, Empire Earth and Stronghold, at least that is what DESTINYbit are going for. The most apparent thing about Empires Apart is the beautiful art direction, and on top of that it promises to be an exciting RTS. Slitherine says Empires Apart is a throwback to classic strategy games like Age of Empires, but it also takes bits from MOBAs and MMORPGs, while managing to become its own game.
”Age of Empires is a great game and there has been very little in that genre for the fans to play over the last few years”, said Iain McNeil, Development Director at Slitherine. ”Multiplayer is especially difficult even in the HD version. There is a real gap in the market which DESTINYbit identified and we’re pleased to be working with this talented team. It keeps true to everything that made Age of Empires great but also has some great new ideas we think will keep the community happy for another 10 years”.
Empires Apart is scheduled to launch in the second half of 2017.
