I’ll freely admit that this barely counts as news, but I’m too huge of a Metal Gear fan to let this one sneak by. David Hayter, the voice actor who originally brought Snake to life, is saying fun, cryptic things on Twitter.
He references a quick exchange between Snake and Colonel Campbell, and invokes a SnakeMystery hashtag while implying that he’s back in a recording booth. The Twitter handle referenced below is that of Paul Eiding, the venerable actor who voiced Colonel Campbell throughout the series.

What's the meaning of this? Why am I back in this booth?#SnakeMystery@4pauleiding pic.twitter.com/ma9fJncbVv

Hayter was famously pretty salty after his iconic gruff voice was dropped for MGS5 in favor of Hollywood star Kiefer Sutherland, supposedly to improve motion capture for the game. Is he back to work on Metal Gear again?
The excitable fan in me wants to guess that given this news and the recent shutdown of the fan remake of Metal Gear Solid suggests that Konami is working a brand-new remake of their own with the original voice actors. But the realist in me suspects that this is, at most, in preparation for a couple of new characters for Metal Gear Online based on series mainstays. Only time will tell.
