inXile announced in a Kickstarter update today that their writing team has completed a first pass of all the game’s content.
This means that all written content in the game is complete, but is pending final edits and revisions. (And any writer can tell you that editing is where the real work begins.) With the overall story complete, the designers and engineers are in position to script the remainder of the game’s content and systems.
inXile hopes “to have the game content complete by the beginning of April,” meaning that it will be completely playable from beginning to end, pending bug fixes, a few features, and polish. The game’s been available in Early Access form since late January, and the developers are currently hoping for a 2016 release.
The Kickstarter-backed game was originally due for release in 2014, but a series of delays have brought us to the current state. A spiritual successor to the Infinity Engine classic, Planescape: Torment, the game will be a story-focused epic RPG that promises to deliver rich characters and a thoughtful plot in a surreal fantasy setting.
