Some things are inescapable, like the annual release of a new Call of Duty game. We’re waiting for details, but we know that a new Infinity Ward-developed entry in the franchise will be out this year.
In a financial report, Activision listed a “New innovative Call of Duty title from Infinity Ward, the makers of the Modern Warfare series, expected to launch this year.” Infinity Ward themselves followed up with this tweet:
COD 2016. Now it’s official. Can't wait to show you what we've been developing! #CallofDuty pic.twitter.com/m28X79gC9v

The only thing more predictable than a new, annual Assassin’s Creed is a new, annual Call of Duty entry, but hey, you never know when things are about to change. Infinity Ward’s last entry in the franchise was Ghosts, which is generally now recognized as the series’ low point. Of course, the studio itself isn’t quite what it once was, as its founders left to form Respawn Entertainment and develop Titanfall.
Hopefully the new entry will bring a bit more to the table. We’ll bring you the latest details as they’re revealed.
